WQPHN extends its heartfelt gratitude to Board Director Dallas Leon for his commitment and service to the Western Queensland region. Dallas, a proud Kalkadoon and Waanyi man, has worked in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander field for over 20 years, taking on roles across Government and non-Government sectors as an Aboriginal Health Worker, senior health manager, and contributor to numerous state and national projects.

Dallas has served as a Board member of WQPHN for nearly five years, including a term as Chairperson, during which he gained valuable insights into the positive effects of health initiatives in the area. “Visiting various communities across the WQPHN region and meeting great people has been a highlight,” he noted.

During his time as Board Director, Dallas observed significant progress in regional health care. “There has been ongoing support for primary health care services and the flexibility to engage new service types and providers across the region,” he said. This commitment to adaptability helps ensure that even remote communities have access to necessary health services.

Dallas offers practical advice to health workers considering remote postings: “Do it. You will meet great people, get valuable work opportunities, and see unique parts of the country,” he said, particularly encouraging young health professionals eager to expand their skills and experiences.

WQPHN CEO, Sandy Gillies, expressed appreciation for Dallas' contributions as he steps down from the Board: “Dallas has been an exceptional leader and advocate for our communities. His dedication, vision, and commitment to improving health outcomes across Western Queensland have made a lasting impact. We will miss his leadership, but his legacy will continue to guide us moving forward.”
